Educated in San Francisco, Matthew Mommer began working with HairPlay and the Joe Hammer Academy Team in 2000. Matthew was drawn to HairPlay's modern and pioneering approach to hairstyling and their heavy focus on constant development. With the salons clientele and culture being diverse and cutting edge, it allowed Matthew to conceptualize and create cuts and colors without limitations. Working closely with Fritz Clay and Joe Hammer, helped him to cultivate a style of his own. He found a passion for teaching and soon took over the educational program at the Academy.
Matthew's signature being, movement and texture, with a keen focus on soft lines and integrative color, specializing in curly hair.
He then spread his wings in Los Angeles, two years with Kaz Amor and the amazing Warren Tricomi team. Helping refine Matthew's styling and finishing techniques, while working on set with celebrities, hi-profile clients, and red carpet events.
Matthew then joined forces with Courtney Wagle at Damia Salon, moving to downtown San Francisco. He learned the in's and out's of running his own business under Damia's umbrella. Knowing that knowledge is the key to staying fresh and innovative, he then took on training the assistants in the cutting and styling department. Damia continued to celebrate Matthew's educational background and his specialty in curly hair. His clients continue to keep him coming back to SF.
His next venture.... New York City. Landing at Alibi Salon SoHo, NY, that was rated one of the top 100 salons in the country while working there in August 2014's Elle Magazine. This was the perfect fit for Matthew and left the flexibly to keep returning to SF, while growing his east coast clientele. Continuing to explore freelance work, he hooked up with Moet~Hennessey Brand, he became the Creative Director for their brand ambassadors program in NY. Styling and creating the new looks for the brand and their events. He enjoys the continued expression to create modern and new looks for different brands and events.
Enjoying being bi-coastal, his clients keep him on a strict schedule going east to west, and is loving every minute of it.
His next move was to join the Paul Fox team, still in SoHo/Nolita. With the hustle and bustle of the downtown scene that keeps him motivated and where he loves to pick up street inspiration from all the fabulous New Yorkers while on his way to work. Paul Fox has a clean approach to hair and salon ascetics as well. This is exactly where Matthew wanted to be next. He loves it here and is excited for the growth and what he can learn from this new vibrant team of experienced stylists.
